Colour Swatches

Slide1

I have chosen 4 different colour swatches which I could use for my house style.

I chose these colours because they are similar to a lot of the other wedding magazines I have looked at. Thy are simplistic, and well used/familiar colours, which means that the reader isn’t confused by them.

Business Plan

Business-Plan-Basics.png

My aim is to produce a new Wedding Magazine which will help give information to and help inspire people who are thinking of getting married or engaged people. It will give advice, ideas and tips. It will also have freebies and offers to try and grab the attention.

My goal will be to produce in both a printed form, as well as a digital one. This is so the entirety of my potential audience (people who like to read digital, online copies and those who prefer printed copies of magazines) can therefore read my magazine in the way they wish. This will therefore increase my sales of the magazine due to more people having access to viewing/reading it, which will result in a domino effect (people reading my magazine recommending it to their friends and so on), increasing sales even more.

Due to my research I know that the top 10 magazine circulation is 450,000 to 100,000. I want to be in the middle of this so want to have around about 250,000.

Number 3 of the top 10 wedding magazines is Brides and they do deals for there wedding magazines. I think it is good to do a bundle for example they do a bundle of 10 for $16. Or Bridal Guide does a deal of 6 issues over 12 months for a rate of $9.95. Saving $32 off the single price copy.

Due to this my magazine I will be doing a bundle of 10 for £9.99.

Due to this i will release every other month.

I will advertise over social media and putting in leaflets or vouchers in wedding dress shops.

Advertisers pay to be featured inside of magazines. This may be evident in my magazine.

I will keep the advertising small as it costs less.

So when they are looking at dresses they can get ideas. Also having a website so when people search for wedding magazines my website will come up. Also having a store magazine so they can buy the magazine online so can view online and also get a digital copy. It’ll make it easy to distribute and share with others online, however, this might make it prone to being stolen. I will include exclusive content on the printed version of the magazine because it’ll be less likely for the printed version of the magazine to be pirated.

There will also be a subscription button for the people who will get a email to tell them when a new copy is out.

I will use a Quality Glossy heavy paper stock due to magazines being well made and needs to be a good quality.

On the website i will have teasers of the new additions. This will make people want to see what the actual website is going to look like.

Due to the main wedding magazine Premier bride being 196 pages. I will make it round about 170 pages.

This is the wire frame for my front cover.
Key points:
  • The title is covering the top of the magazine.
  • The image is the background of the whole magazine cover
  • The cover lines are going around the image with some being on the left and some on the right. This will go around the head of the model.

Take my survey to give me more research:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5B26PVY – Survey

I have used multiple channels to distribute my survey to ensure that I can get as many people as possible to answer it.

I distributed my survey in the following ways:

  • I emailed teachers and students the survey
  • I put it on my blog for people to answer
  • I used Facebook so friends and family could answer and share it

Real-world Text Research

Magazine contents page(colloge)

  • The masthead (name of the magazine) runs along the top of the magazine cover. Most of the time the masthead text is obscured by the cover model’s head, but this is not always the case. It most of the time has something to do with wedding or brides

  • The main image is used to sell the cover is normally a medium close-up of a cover model; although sometimes the shot used includes more of the model’s body. This seems to be done when the magazine wants to showcase the outfit that the model is wearing. The main image of the bride makes people know that it is a wedding magazine.

  • Four or five cover lines are arranged around the hero shot. It appears rare for these cover lines to cover or obscure the main image. They are all aligned to the sides of the page. However some do go over the dress.

  • On the covers, it is clear that one key font is chosen for the masthead. This is often capitalized and spans across the top of the whole page. It is also typically quite long. The most common colours for the masthead are pink or white.

  • The cover lines tend to feature a range of font choices most are sans serif. Again, black, white and pink are popular colour choices, but often the cover lines link to the cover’s individual colour palette.

  • Most of the colour palettes have light backgrounds with dark header or dark background with light header.

  • Most of the wedding front covers are bright and vibrant for the bride

  • The bar code is normally on the bottom left

  • Most of the magazines have around about 3-7 content promoted through the cover lines. The content featured on the cover tends to come under the following topics:

Brides, Dresses, Do’s and don’ts

House style:

The magazine is mainly going to be for young/middle adulthood women. They use attractive fit women to make the women who are reading aspire to be them. They use words such as “Romance” and “Beautiful” in big bold writing to stand out and aspire to be these things. The articles are organised into columns and the text type is unified throughout, with paragraph text all being in a very standard, simple style.  All heading and sub-heading are also in the same font family, just in larger forms.

Genre convention:

With wedding magazines there is a bride most of the time on the front cover. This shows the audience that it is a wedding magazine.

So when I do my wedding magazine I will have a title that refers to wedding which will let people know that it is a wedding magazine straight away. It will be a bold colour to make the title stand out.

The model will have a wedding dress on as well to make sure the audience know what the magazine is about.

I will use sharp, clear, bold and interest-stirring cover lines that entice and appeal to my target audience.

Contents Page Research

I collected images of contents pages that appealed to me, creating the collage below to support my research. I tried to get as many different types of wedding magazines as I could.

Contents proper

Key Points:

  • The main common features of all of these contents pages are that they all have a model somewhere on the page or something to do with wedding for example wedding glass etc all have makeup or a model with makeup on with wedding dress.
  • Normally have a title saying ‘contents’. To clearly show what page it is.

  • It has ideas and tips for example “Fabulous cakes ” , “Wedding photography”,  “Wedding Of The Year”, “Beginner Tips”. These headlines, appeal, engage and draw the reader in

  • Nomally a main picture of a bride again but a body picture. Also pictures to do with the wedding for the first time including cakes, venues and husbands ect. The pictures are bright, bold, relevant and eye-catching, adding to the article they accompany and adding visual images to the information in the text of each article.
  • The title is normally big however the actual writing of the contents page is very small. Text appears to be between size 8 and 10 and the most common styles are sans serif. Heavier weighted fonts are often used to identify sub-sections and / or important articles.
  • All of the pages have white backgrounds. The title normally having a bold colour. That and the white being the main two colours throughout. With a lot of black writing. Normally a pop of colour normally pink or blue.
  • There is a lot of wedding, venues and wedding cakes
